Website accessibility statement
This site is meant to work for everyone who arrives at it. Here is what that means in practice, what has been checked, what has not, and how to tell me when something gets in your way.
The target
The target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. That is a target, not a certificate. Nobody has audited this site independently, and I don't claim it conforms. I build toward it and fix what falls short.
What is built in
- Every page is built to be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a link at the top that skips to the main content.
- Pages use real headings, landmarks, lists, tables and form labels, so a screen reader can move through them by structure.
- Images that carry meaning have text alternatives.
- Text contrast is part of the automated checks. There is a light and a dark theme, and the site follows your device setting.
- Text can be zoomed and the layout reflows to a single column rather than scrolling sideways.
- Animation is turned off when your device asks for reduced motion, and no content depends on it.
- The contact form works without JavaScript.
- The chat assistant is optional and closed until you open it. Everything it can do can also be done through the contact page, by email or by phone.
- The free tools explain errors in words next to the field, not by color alone, and their results are tables and lists rather than charts.
What has been tested, and what has not
Each page template is run through automated accessibility checks. Those catch a useful share of problems and miss others, and a passing automated score is not proof of anything on its own.
A full manual pass with a screen reader has not been done yet across the whole site, and the site has not been tested with people who use assistive technology every day. If you do, your report is worth more than any tool I can run.
Things I don't control
Some links leave this site, including the client panel, Google Maps and the live sites in the portfolio. Portfolio sites built for other people are theirs to maintain, and the concept builds are design exercises.
Tell me about a problem
If something on this site is hard or impossible for you to use, email sean@swansonx.com or call (218) 818-1023. It helps to know the page, what you were trying to do, and what you were using, but none of that is required. I reply within 24 hours. If you need anything on this site in another form in the meantime, ask and I'll send it.
