Minneapolis & St. Paul

Website design in the Twin Cities, without agency pricing.

Metro agencies commonly quote $6,000 to $9,000 for a small business site, then add a retainer. I build the same kind of site on my own, for one fixed price from $1,495 in writing, and you own the code.

  • No account manager, no retainer

Why the metro is different

The search worth winning is smaller than you think.

Three million people means real competition. Chasing the broadest possible search is the most expensive way to lose; the winnable ground is narrower and much more specific.

Neighborhood level, not metro level

“Plumber Minneapolis” is a fight with every established firm and their agencies. Northeast, Highland Park, Linden Hills, or the six suburbs you'll actually drive to, is a fight you can win — and those searches come from people much closer to booking.

Built to survive a comparison

Metro buyers open six tabs before they call anyone. Yours has to answer what you do, what it costs and why you're trustworthy faster than the other five. That's a job for clear structure and real photographs, not for a slider.

Priced against one person, not an agency

You're not paying for an account manager, a project manager, an office on Washington Avenue, or a retainer you can't get out of. One person builds it, and the price reflects that.

Being straight with you

I'm not in the Cities, and that's exactly why the price is what it is.

I'm in Brainerd, a bit over two hours north. I'm not going to put a rented Minneapolis address on this page to look like a local agency, because plenty of sites do and it's the first thing that stops being true when you need something.

In practice it changes nothing about the work. Sites are built and handed over remotely wherever the client is, over email and video calls, and metro clients get the same fixed price and the same timeline as anyone up here. What it does change is the overhead, and that's most of the gap between my quote and a metro agency's.

If your project genuinely needs someone in the room every week, an agency in the metro is a reasonable thing to pay for, and I'll say so rather than talk you out of it.

What it costs

Same prices in Edina as in Baxter.

Most metro agencies won't quote until you've sat through a discovery call. These are published instead.

Where I work

Across the metro, and the rest of Minnesota.

The work runs over email and video calls, so where you are in the metro changes nothing about the price or the timeline. If it helps your search results, your suburb goes on your own site in plain text.

Questions

Questions from metro businesses.

You're not in the Twin Cities. Does that matter?
For the work, no — it's built and handed over remotely wherever the client is, over email and video calls. For the price, yes, and in your favor: no metro office and no staff is a large part of the gap between my quote and an agency's. If your project genuinely needs someone in the room every week, an agency in the metro is a reasonable thing to pay for, and I'll say so.
Why is the price so much lower than the quotes I'm getting?
Because there's one person and no overhead. Metro agencies commonly quote $6,000 to $9,000 for a small business site and then add a retainer. That's not dishonest of them — it's what an office and a team cost. It's just not what you're buying here.
Can you rank me for “[my trade] Minneapolis”?
Probably not quickly, and anyone promising otherwise is selling. The winnable ground is narrower: your neighborhood, your suburbs, and the specific services you actually want more of. That's what I'd build the site around.
Do you put a Minneapolis address on client sites?
Not a fake one, and not mine. Your address goes on your site if you have one. I won't rent a metro address to look local, because plenty of sites do and it's the first thing that stops being true when you need something.
What happens after launch?
Site Care is $49/month, month to month, no cancellation fee, and you can leave it and host the site yourself at any point — you have the source code. All prices.

Tell me what you're building.

Send me the business, the neighborhood and what the site has to do. I'll reply within 24 hours with a fixed price and a date, and an honest note if an agency is the better fit.
