Think about what the person on the other end is doing. They have a leak, a dead furnace or a branch through the garage roof. They googled your trade, opened three tabs, and they are working down the list. They are not evaluating your craftsmanship. They are finding out who picks up.
When your phone rings out, one of two things happens. Either they leave a voicemail and wait, which almost nobody does any more, or they hang up and dial the next number. You never find out that the call happened, so the loss is invisible. It does not show up anywhere. It just feels like a slow month.
The fix is not answering more calls. You cannot, and you should not be taking your hands off a ladder to try. The fix is making sure that hanging up is not the only option they have.
