Small business website design

A website that books the job, not one that wins awards.

Most small business websites are a brochure that happens to be online. I build the other kind: fast, custom-coded, and shaped around the one thing you actually need it to do, which is turn a stranger who found you on their phone into a phone call. From $2,500, one fixed price in writing.

Text me anytime: (218) 818-1023. Skip the email if you like. I read and answer every text myself.

The difference that matters

What a site that converts does differently

None of this is about taste. It is about what a stranger on a phone, with two other tabs open on your competitors, needs in the first ten seconds.

It says what you do and where, immediately

Not a slideshow of stock photos. Your trade, your service area and your phone number, visible without scrolling, because half your visitors are checking whether you cover their town.

It loads in about a second

Hand-written code, no page builder, no plugin pile-up. Every second of load time costs you visitors, and builder sites routinely take five.

It asks for the call in more than one place

A number that dials when tapped, a form that is short enough to actually finish, and a reason to use them. One buried contact page is how a site gets traffic and no work.

It answers the questions that stop people calling

Are you licensed, do you cover my town, roughly what does this cost, how soon can you come. A page that dodges those loses to the one that does not.

It works properly on a phone

Most of your visitors are on one, often outside, often one-handed. That is the design target, not the desktop mockup.

Google can actually read it

Real headings, real text, a sitemap, structured data and a page per service. The foundations are in every build, not an upsell.

What moves the number up

Size and depth. Nothing else.

More pages. A page per service is what local search actually ranks, so a five-service contractor gets more pages than a single-trade one.

Writing it for you. Most people would rather I wrote the copy than stare at a blank document for three weeks. That is a real cost and the quote says so.

Photos, a logo, a booking flow. Sourcing images, designing a brand, or wiring a real booking or quote system rather than a plain form.

Selling online is a different kind of build. Payments, stock and tax change the shape of the job, so it is quoted separately, still fixed.

Contractor websites

Building for a trade? The site is only half of it.

A contractor website earns the call. What happens next, whether that call gets answered when you are on a roof and whether the estimate gets followed up, decides whether it becomes a job. I build both halves, and they work better together than either does alone.

How it runs

Questions

Website questions, answered

How much does a small business website cost?

Custom websites start at $2,500 and landing pages at $1,995, one fixed price for the scope we agree, in writing before I start. It does not move afterwards. What moves the starting number is size and depth: more pages, copy written for you, photos sourced, a logo, a booking form. If the job runs long, that is my problem, not your invoice.

How long does it take?

Most sites go live within one to two weeks of me having your content, and content is almost always the thing that decides the timeline rather than the build. Tell me your deadline and I will be straight about whether it is doable.

What makes this different from Wix or Squarespace?

A builder is $16 to $46 a month forever and you are still the one logging in at 10pm to change your opening hours. The template constrains the design, the page loads slowly because it is carrying features you never use, and if you stop paying, the site vanishes and you keep nothing. Here the code is hand-written, it is yours, and there is a person who makes the edits. The honest comparison, with real costs.

Do I have to pay monthly?

No. The build is a one-off and you get the source code. The $49/month care plan is optional: hosting, domain and SSL, backups, monitoring, an admin panel and 3 hours of my work a month. It is month to month with no cancellation fee. If you would rather have no monthly cost at all, say so before we start and I will quote the build alone and hand you the code. What the care plan covers.

Can I edit it myself afterwards?

Yes, and I will show you how. The care plan comes with an admin panel for your text, photos and blog posts. If you would rather not touch any of it, email me the change and it is done, usually the same day.

I already have a website. Can you fix it instead of replacing it?

Sometimes, and I will tell you which is cheaper. If it is a builder site, rebuilding is usually less work than fighting the template. If it is custom and structurally sound, fixing speed, structure and copy can be a much smaller job. Either way I will look at it before I quote. More on rebuilds.

Let's price your website.

Tell me what the business does and roughly what you need the site to do. I will come back within 24 hours with a fixed price and an honest timeline, whether or not you end up hiring me.
