Why build a business that does not exist

A trade business does not need a one page site. It needs every service crossed with every service area, because that is how somebody two towns over actually finds it. That is eighteen pages before you have written a word of anything interesting, and you cannot demonstrate it with a single scrolling demo.

So the company is invented and the requirement is real. The photography is genuine stock, the business is not, and the quote form says on screen that it is a demonstration.

What is in it

Eighteen prerendered pages covering the service and service area grid, a filterable photo gallery, drag to compare before and after sliders, and a three step quote request that does not ask for everything on the first screen.

All eighteen routes prerender to static files. A trade site gets found on a phone with one bar of signal, and every millisecond of that is a decision made at build time rather than in the browser.

What it taught me

A hero image can be downloaded in well under half a second and still record a bad score, because the metric is measured at the end of the animation that reveals it rather than when the file arrives. A fast first paint proves nothing on its own. That one cost an afternoon and changed how I build every hero since.
